The air defence system was delivered by helicopter to the roof of a prestigious residential complex known as Dom v Sokolnikakh, which is a three-minute walk away from the Sokolniki metro station, according to Agentstvo's geolocation analysis.

OSINT analyst Kirill Mikhailov said the system installed on the building is likely a variant of the Pantsir-SMD-E designed specifically to counter drones.

At the end of May, an identical air defence system was installed on the roof of the 42-storey Nordstar Tower business centre, a property linked to Rosneft, near the Begovaya metro station.

The Pantsir-SMD-E uses small and medium-range missiles, including the TKB-1055 Gvozd and the 95Ya6 missile, which have ranges of 7 km and up to 20 km respectively. By comparison, the standard Pantsir-S1 is equipped with automatic cannons. Operational experience has shown that missiles are more effective against drones than cannons, Mikhailov said.
