Quote from Director General Rafael Grossi: "Off-site power was restored to the ZNPP this morning after a 15-hour outage, when the site had to rely on emergency diesel generators for electricity to cool its six shutdown reactors.
It was the 18th loss of off-site power during the war and one of the longest, highlighting the extreme fragility of the electrical grid and the urgency of proceeding with planned power line repairs under the protection of an IAEA-brokered ceasefire."
Background:
- On the night of 2-3 June, the ZNPP experienced its 17th blackout since its occupation by Russian forces and the fifth since the beginning of 2026.
- The Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant, whose switchyard helps transmit electricity to the ZNPP, came under a heavy attack on the morning of 4 June.
- On 5 June, the IAEA reported that a local ceasefire had been declared in the area around ZNPP to allow repair work to be carried out.
