Russian strike hits Ukrposhta sorting hub in Kharkiv
A Russian Shahed drone struck a sorting hub belonging to Ukraine's national postal service Ukrposhta in Kharkiv on the night of 7-8 June, forcing the postal operator to temporarily alter its parcel processing and delivery system and switch to a backup logistics scheme.

Quote from Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smilianskyi: "Overnight, a Shahed drone struck our Ukrposhta sorting hub in Kharkiv. Thanks to the safety measures we had put in place in advance, everyone survived, and that is the most important thing."
Details: The attack damaged part of the sorting equipment, although the full extent of the damage will only be determined after a detailed inspection and the restoration of power supplies. The final assessment of losses will be completed once the relevant commissions finish examining the damaged equipment.
Smilianskyi said that despite the significant damage, a large number of customers' parcels remained intact and would still be delivered to Kharkiv post offices later today.
Customers whose parcels were destroyed will receive compensation.
"The Ukrposhta team has been working since 04:00 to restore operations. Vehicles from other locations have been redirected to backup sites, and we will do everything possible to deliver parcels as quickly as possible with minimal delays," he wrote on Facebook.
Ukrposhta said it had temporarily changed its parcel processing and delivery procedures following the Russian strike on its Kharkiv logistics hub. The company is operating under a backup scheme to ensure uninterrupted deliveries across Ukraine.
"Immediately after the strike, our team reconfigured logistics routes, and all undamaged shipments continued on their way to recipients. We have also already begun preparing compensation for customers whose parcels were affected by the attack," the company said.
Backup facilities in another city have been activated to process shipments for Kharkiv and Donetsk oblasts. Some long-haul trucks heading for Kharkiv were redirected to alternative sorting centres as early as 03:00, where a separate sorting process has been established for these destinations.
Two daily delivery routes have already been organised for Kharkiv to ensure that surviving parcels reach customers by this evening.
Ukrposhta is currently compiling lists of customers eligible for compensation. Customers are expected to begin receiving notifications with further instructions on Wednesday after the verification process and the preparation of final lists are completed.
To prevent disruptions to operations, the company will urgently relocate equipment from other regions, deploy reserve resources and purchase additional equipment to maintain stable logistics operations.
Background: A Russian drone struck the roof of Depot No. 5 belonging to Nova Poshta (Nova Post), Ukraine's largest private postal operator, during the attack on Kharkiv on the night of 7-8 June, causing a fire and a partial collapse of the building's structure.
