Details: FIDE issued a press release stating that it has formally requested information from the Chess Federation of Russia on its implementation of the CAS ruling.
Quote: "In accordance with the CAS decision in case CAS 2024/A/10911, the Chess Federation of Russia was required to comply with the decision by 9 June 2026. The FIDE Council has therefore formally requested the Chess Federation of Russia to provide evidence of its compliance with the decision."
Details: Under FIDE statutes, once the Chess Federation of Russia responds, its submission will be assessed and further decisions will be taken accordingly.
Background:
- In March, CAS ordered the Chess Federation of Russia to cease all activities in the temporarily occupied parts of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, as well as in Crimea.
- The court gave the Russian chess federation 90 days to comply. Failure to do so could result in a three-year ban.
- The first ruling on the activities of the Chess Federation of Russia in the occupied territories was issued in 2024, when CAS imposed a €45,000 fine on the Russian side. The Ukrainian Chess Federation objected to the decision and filed an appeal, which was partially upheld.
