The occupation authorities in Kherson Oblast reported on 7 June that traffic across the bridge had been suspended following damage caused by Ukrainian drones.

Skhemy also noted that a pontoon crossing first appeared near the Chonhar Bridge in June 2023. It was later seen concealed beneath the bridge.

Military sources told Ukrainska Pravda that Russian forces have largely switched to using the route through Armyansk to reach Crimea.

Background:

  • On 9 June, Volodymyr Saldo, the Russian-installed governor of the occupied part of Kherson Oblast, claimed that a bridge near the village of Chonhar was damaged again following an overnight drone attack conducted by Ukrainian forces.
  • The bridge near Chonhar is one of two road routes connecting mainland Ukraine with temporarily occupied Crimea.
