Background:

  • In March, the Ukrainian authorities reported that Ukrainian ports had handled more than 15 million tonnes of cargo since the beginning of the year, 14.5 million tonnes of which passed through the seaports of Greater Odesa, a logistical and industrial hub that combines three major ports – Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi.
  • In January, it was reported that since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Russia had destroyed or damaged 686 port infrastructure facilities and 150 civilian vessels, and almost 24,000 rail infrastructure facilities had sustained damage.
  • During 2025, Russian forces carried out 22 attacks on vessels in Odesa Oblast ports and in the Black Sea, damaging 39 ships and watercraft.
