A branch belonging to Ukrposhta, Ukraine's national postal service, in Kyiv, which had been closed since 2024, has been completely destroyed due to a Russian attack.

Quote from Smilianskyi: "Last week, when our hub in Kharkiv was partially destroyed by a drone strike, they showed on their 'Goebbels TV' [ironic name for Russian propaganda media sources – ed.] that it supposedly housed an ammunition depot. Of course, this is a delusional fantasy (because it would have detonated at least), but at least that logistics facility was operational.

Today, however, a targeted strike effectively reduced our Kyiv post office to a crater. It had been closed since 2024, so there were no parcels inside."

Details: He said that apart from the building, which was owned by Ukrposhta, no one was injured.

"At this time it is still difficult to talk about reconstruction, but we do plan to increase the number of service points in the Troieshchyna neighbourhood this year," he added.

Background:

  • On the night of 14-15 June, Russian forces launched a combined strike on the capital, killing four people and injuring 30.
  • Russian forces also destroyed Nova Poshta's largest innovative sorting terminal in Kyiv on the same night.
  • On the night of 7-8 June, a Russian Shahed drone struck a Ukrposhta sorting hub in Kharkiv: the operator temporarily changed its processing and delivery scheme and is now operating on a backup system.
  • Ukrposhta's losses from the Kharkiv hub strike are expected to exceed UAH 11 million (US$245,000), including over UAH 1 million (US$22,000) to be paid to customers for destroyed parcels.
