Zelenskyy discusses defence cooperation with Canadian PM

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Évian, France.

Details: During the meeting, the two leaders discussed defence cooperation between Ukraine and Canada as well as Ottawa's participation in financing the production of Ukrainian drones under the Danish model.
Zelenskyy and Carney also discussed strengthening pressure on Russia through sanctions. The Ukrainian president thanked Canada for its new sanctions package targeting more than 160 entities, including those linked to Russia's shadow fleet.
Zelenskyy also briefed the Canadian PM on recent Russian attacks and developments on the battlefield, which he said are shifting in Ukraine's favour.
Carney condemned the Russian strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (the Monastery of the Caves) and praised the courage and resilience of Ukrainians resisting Russian aggression.
"Ukraine will win. It is just a question of time. It is just a question of how much senseless slaughter Russia perpetrates. And what we see today is G7 unity – unity in support of you and in moving forward," he said.
The Canadian prime minister also stated that Canada will continue providing Ukraine with energy support and assistance for recovery.
During the meeting, Carney announced a new package of sanctions against Russia.
Background: At the end of March, Canada announced additional sanctions targeting tankers belonging to Russia's shadow fleet.
