Details: Zelenskyy is currently in Brussels, where he is expected to take part in a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (also known as the Ramstein format), held on the sidelines of the NATO defence ministers' meeting. The day before, he held talks in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius.
Zelenskyy thanked Germany and all other defence ministers for what they have prepared for today's Ramstein meeting and noted that discussions are planned on "our European anti-ballistic system".
"You know, it was Ukraine that initiated this process. That requires cooperation with our partners, with their companies, with their NSA [national security advisers – ed.] and with their leaders.
And today we are to have a very important event, where German representatives will tell Ukrainians what it will require of us, and we will share what it will require of them, in order to take the first step towards a future anti-ballistic system," Zelenskyy said.
Background:
- Zelenskyy said earlier that during talks with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit, they discussed the prospect of Ukraine obtaining licences to produce anti-ballistic systems and missiles.
- In early June, Zelenskyy said Ukraine is working with its European and US partners to launch production of anti-ballistic air defence systems in European countries.
