Polish government spokesman Adam Szłapka said he is "surprised by the discussion" over the absence of an invitation for Polish President Karol Nawrocki to the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC-2026), calling it a political game.

Quote: "Perhaps Mr Rafał Leszkowicz does not know what different meeting formats look like. Minister Marcin Przydacz certainly knows this very well, so when he questions it here, it is clear that this is a game."

Details: As the spokesman explained, "there are different types of events" which "have different formats".

"At the beginning of the presidential term, the president also organised meetings with the Baltic and Northern European countries, and that was his presidential format at the time, which concerned certain security matters. He did not invite anyone from the government," Szłapka noted.

The spokesman said that URC-2026 is a "governmental format". "A similar reconstruction conference also took place in Berlin and, previously, in Rome. Neither the German president nor the Italian president was there," the politician recalled.

"There is no malice here whatsoever, but let us be honest: the presidential palace has shown not a drop of interest in this conference, except negative interest," he added.

He also said there are no signals that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will not attend the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk.

Background: On 22 June, Marcin Przydacz, Head of the International Policy Bureau of the President of Poland, said that Nawrocki did not receive an invitation to the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which will take place in Gdańsk this week.
