New power outages reported across Ukraine after Russian attack, Sumy worst affected

Following Russia's large-scale missile and drone attack on the night of 1-2 July, new power outages have been reported in several regions of Ukraine, with Sumy Oblast experiencing the most severe disruptions.

Details: Energy infrastructure facilities were among the targets of the overnight and early morning attack. Sumy Oblast has the highest number of consumers left without electricity.

New outages have also been reported in the city of Kyiv and in Donetsk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.

Emergency repair work is already under way wherever the security situation allows. Energy workers are working to restore power to all affected consumers as quickly as possible.

Background:

  • During the night of 2 July, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine. Ukrainian air defences downed 524 of the 570 aerial targets launched, although 25 ballistic missiles and 12 attack drones reached their targets.
  • Russia's overnight attack on Kyiv killed 13 people and injured 86 others. Seven people were rescued alive from beneath the rubble.
