NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has expressed hope that the NATO summit will help advance decisions favourable to Ukraine on interceptors for countering ballistic missiles.

Details: According to Rutte, the issue of interceptors has both political and practical dimensions.
Quote: "When it comes to the political [aspect], I can assure you that the United States is doing everything they can to deliver on the PURL commitment and they are doing so… From a practical perspective… there is a limit to the amount of interceptors there are in NATO territory."
Details: Rutte stressed that this is why it is necessary to ensure their joint production.
"That's one of the reasons why Ukraine itself has been working. Of course, this is not something which will lead to results immediately, but to see what they can do with help of NATO partners, allies, to produce more when it comes to interceptors. So we are working from every angle, everybody is involved in this," he said.
Rutte said discussions are ongoing and will continue over the next two days in Ankara.
Background:
- The NATO secretary general also commented on Russia's latest attack on Ukraine, calling on allies to continue supporting Kyiv.
- He said he is convinced that Russia's missile attack on Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast had been planned specifically to inflict harm on civilians.
