Details: The decision was made after the International Olympic Committee temporarily restored the rights of the Russian Olympic Committee last week. As a result, Russia and Belarus will be able to take part in international handball competitions without any restrictions and under their national symbols, including their anthem and flag.
Handball has become the second team sport in which sanctions on Russia and Belarus were lifted following the International Olympic Committee's decision of 7 July 2026. The International Volleyball Federation made a similar decision last week.
