Ukrainian parliament appoints new government except defence and foreign ministers

The Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) has appointed a new Cabinet of Ministers (Ukrainian government), led by Serhii Koretskyi. The parliament is expected to appoint the foreign and defence ministers separately at a later date.

Details: MPs approved the ministerial appointments by 264 votes.

MPs will consider the foreign and defence minister posts separately after the president submits the relevant nominations.
Background:
- On 16 July, the Verkhovna Rada approved the appointment of Serhii Koretskyi as prime minister. Koretskyi previously served as CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine, the country's largest oil and gas company, and Ukrnafta, Ukraine's largest oil producer.
- The dismissal of Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has sparked protests near the President's Office in Kyiv.
