A bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia, drafted by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, has secured more than 60 co-sponsors, enough to ensure its passage in the US Senate.

Quote from the article: "The legislation, which would impose 100% secondary tariffs on countries that continue buying Russian oil and gas, now appears to have the votes it needs to pass the Senate. The biggest remaining hurdle is getting floor time."

Details: A source familiar with the matter, said the bill currently has at least 61 co-sponsors: 39 Republicans and 22 Democrats.

On the afternoon of 16 July, the Republican leadership began the so-called "hotline" process – an informal survey of Republican senators to determine whether there are any objections to bringing the bill to a vote. This indicates an intention to move the legislation forward as quickly as possible.

In the Senate, the updated version of the bill is being championed by Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal. It must also be approved by the US House of Representatives.
