Protests against Fedorov's dismissal continued for fifth day in Kyiv and other cities – photos

For the fifth day running, people in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities have taken to the streets to protest against the dismissal of former defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov and to call for the resignation of Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Details: Demonstrations were held on Monday 20 July in Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Odesa, Cherkasy, Lutsk, Poltava, Chernivtsi, Uzhhorod and other cities.

The protesters' demands remain unchanged: to reinstate Fedorov as defence minister and dismiss Syrskyi.

Background:

• On 16, 17, 18 and 19 July, demonstrations were held in Kyiv and other cities calling for Fedorov to be reinstated as defence minister and for Syrskyi to be dismissed.
• Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that Fedorov and Syrskyi had been unable to find common ground and that problems on the battlefield, within brigades and with mobilisation remained unresolved.
• On 18 July, Zelenskyy said he had spoken with Fedorov and Syrskyi. He promised that "decisions regarding the army will be worked out".
• On 20 July, Syrskyi apologised to Fedorov and said he had not realised there was a conflict between them.
