Ukraine creates experimental air defence batteries to protect energy infrastructure

Ukraine is deploying AI-powered robotic turrets to combat drones, Brigadier General Andrii Lebedenko, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces, has said.

Quote: "Drones have started to evolve, fly higher and have become difficult targets for mobile fire groups. We set ourselves the goal of creating a new quality of old weaponry hybridised with AI-powered robotic turrets..."

Details: Lebedenko said the systems are already in use and can significantly improve strike effectiveness while reducing the number of personnel required to operate them.

Quote: "We have set up several experimental batteries which are already protecting energy infrastructure facilities and have proved effective."

More details: Lebedenko added that the systems also make it possible to reduce ammunition consumption severalfold.

In addition, Lebedenko reported that Ukraine has companies working on developing laser weapons.

He said work is also under way to adapt Soviet-era helicopters to counter airborne threats. They are equipped with modern communications, navigation, reconnaissance and strike systems.
