Zelenskyy and Martin paid tribute to fallen Ukrainian soldiers.

Quote: "Ireland also began its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the same way – by paying tribute to those who are defending all of Europe today, the people of Ukraine. We thank Ireland for this solidarity with Ukraine and our people."

Background:

  • Martin's visit comes three weeks after Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Dublin to mark the start of Ireland's EU presidency.
  • At the time, Martin said his country was already wrapping up its investigation into reports of alumina exports to Russia, a raw material used to produce aluminium.
  • Martin also said the Ukrainian people have earned their place in the EU, and voiced hope that the difficulties Ukraine faces with its neighbours along that path could yet be overcome.
