Russian forces outnumber Ukrainians six to one on some sections of Pokrovsk front – photo

Oleksandr Pivnenko, Ukraine's National Guard Commander, says the most difficult situation remains on the Pokrovsk front in Donetsk Oblast, where the Russians are continuing their intensive assaults and have a significant numerical advantage but are also suffering heavy losses.

Details: Pivnenko reported that he had visited National Guard units carrying out combat missions in Kharkiv and Donetsk oblasts and discussed the current operational situation, the nature of the Russians' actions, supply issues and priority needs with corps and unit commanders.

Quote: "The most difficult situation remains in Donetsk Oblast, specifically on the Pokrovsk front. The Russians are continuing their intensive assault operations, actively using strike drones, aircraft and substantial infantry forces.

On some sections, the ratio of our forces to those of the Russians is 1:6. However, the warriors of the National Guard's 1st Corps Azov are holding their designated lines, repelling even surprise attacks and inflicting significant losses on the Russians in terms of both manpower and equipment."

Details: Pivnenko also stated that the effective repelling of most Russian attacks has been possible thanks to thorough reconnaissance, timely detection of Russian forces and assets, and the decisive pre-emptive actions of Ukrainian servicemembers.

He also reported that in Kharkiv Oblast, units from the National Guard's 2nd Corps Khartia continue to hold key positions and conduct reconnaissance-strike operations. "There is a clear vision of how to act to ensure the Russians do not succeed and cannot create preconditions for implementing their plans," the commander added.

Special forces from the Omega Centre for Special Operations are also effectively carrying out combat missions on various sections of the front. They are reinforcing defences, particularly through the extensive use of UAVs, effectively delivering mid-range strikes and conducting reconnaissance-strike operations.

Background: Special forces from the Omega Special Purpose Centre within the National Guard of Ukraine used drones to destroy a Russian Su-24M frontline bomber at the Saky military airbase in temporarily occupied Crimea on 16 July.
