Ukraine welcomes agreement on EU's 21st Russia sanctions package

Andrii Sybiha, acting minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, has welcomed the agreement in the EU on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, which is now just one step away from adoption.

Details: Sybiha wrote that he welcomes the agreement on the EU's 21st Russia sanctions package which introduces additional restrictions in the areas of energy, trade and finance.

"I particularly welcome the first steps toward formally banning Russian combatants from entering the EU. Those who fight, enable, justify, or profit from Russian aggression have no place enjoying the freedoms, security, and values they seek to destroy," he noted.

Sybiha called for further intensification of sanctions pressure on Russia and the closing of sanctions evasion "loopholes".

The 21st sanctions package was finally agreed at EU ambassador level on the morning of 23 July, after its adoption had been blocked by individual countries for various reasons, the latest of which was Greece.

The package is to be approved on the afternoon of 23 July through a written procedure.
