Ukraine demands investigation into attack on Ukrainian couple in Wrocław – video

Ukraine's Consulate General in Wrocław has called for a swift response from Polish law enforcement agencies to the latest incident in which Ukrainians were harmed.

Details: According to media reports, a young Ukrainian couple were attacked in the Polish city of Wrocław, allegedly because of their accent, and law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the incident.

Quote from the consulate: "We are compelled to note that cases of violence and aggression targeting Ukrainian nationals have become more frequent in Poland recently. Each such case requires a thorough investigation and an appropriate legal assessment."

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has instructed the consulate to urgently take the necessary response measures. The consulate has already sent an official request to the competent bodies of the Polish National Police and is awaiting official information.

Quote: "Should the reported circumstances be confirmed, we expect a comprehensive, objective and swift investigation, the establishment of the motives behind the act, and the perpetrators to be held accountable in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Poland. Any manifestations of violence, xenophobia or hatred are unacceptable and have no place in a democratic society."

The consulate also urged Ukrainians who may have been affected by this incident or who have any information to get in touch.

It was recently reported that for the first time in the history of polls by Poland's Centre for Public Opinion Research, the number of people who said they were opposed to accepting refugees from Ukraine exceeded the number of people in favour.
