Russia attacks Ukraine with 80 drones: Air Force reports results of overnight air defence operation

Russia attacked Ukraine with 80 drones on the night of 28-29 July. Ukrainian air defences have downed 65 of the UAVs, while drone strikes and falling debris have been recorded at multiple locations.

Details: From 18:00 on 28 July, Russian forces have attacked Ukraine with Shahed (some jet-powered), Gerbera and Italmas attack drones, Banderol loitering munitions and Parodiya decoy UAVs from the Russian cities of Oryol, Kursk, Bryansk and Primorsko-Akhtarsk as well as temporarily occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Crimea.

Aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare assets, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups from Ukraine's defence forces have been involved in repelling the attack.

Early reports indicated that as of 08:00, Ukrainian air defence forces had destroyed or jammed 65 Russian drones of various types in the country's north, south and east.

Hits by 14 UAVs have been recorded at 10 locations and the fall of downed aerial assets (debris) at two locations.
