Head of sanctioned Russian drone company critically injured in shooting in Russia's Tula

Andrei Cherezov, the head of a sanctioned drone manufacturer that produces Ovod FPV drones and other systems, was targeted in an assassination attempt in the Russian city of Tula overnight on 28-29 July.

Details: An unidentified gunman shot Cherezov several times in the stairwell of his apartment building. According to his wife, three shots were fired before the attacker fled the scene.

The businessman has been taken to hospital and is reported to be in a critical condition.

According to OSINT Varta, Cherezov heads the Russian Air Transport Laboratory, a company specialising in the development and production of multirotor unmanned aerial vehicles and their control systems. The company develops FPV drones, including the Ovod series, and supplies drone systems to educational and research institutions.

The company recently won two government tenders worth RUB 29.7 million (about US$374,000) to supply 337 UAV assembly kits and 17 control-system sets for research at Voronezh State Technical University.

The company is subject to sanctions imposed by the United States, the European Union and Ukraine.

Background: In June, there were three assassination attempts in Russia targeting individuals linked to the war against Ukraine.
