Death toll from Russian strike on arms exhibition near Kyiv rises to 12

Another person injured in the Russian strike on an arms exhibition in Kyiv Oblast on 24 July has died in hospital, bringing the death toll from the attack to 12.

Quote: "A 20-year-old young man who sustained severe injuries in the Russian attack on Kyiv Oblast on 24 July has died in hospital. Despite doctors' efforts, his life could not be saved. As a result, the death toll from the attack has risen to 12."

Background:

  • On the afternoon of 24 July, Russian forces launched a missile attack on Kyiv Oblast, striking an arms exhibition.
  • It was initially reported that 10 people had been killed and around 100 injured in the strike.
  • Two criminal cases have been opened into the incident under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war) and Article 367.3 (improper performance of official duties during the organisation and running of an event resulting in loss of life and other serious consequences).
  • Ukraine's Air Force said two Russian ballistic missiles had struck the training ground in Kyiv Oblast where the event was being held.
  • Vasyl Honcharuk, organiser of the arms exhibition, was detained and served with a notice of suspicion under Article 367.3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
  • Kyiv's Sviatoshynskyi District Court ordered him to be remanded in custody for 60 days, with no option of bail.
