General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russian forces suffered record personnel losses in July 2026, the highest since the start of the year – 42,860 people.

Details: Monthly dynamics of Russia's personnel losses in 2026 are as follows:

  • January: 31,710 service members
  • February: 26,090 service members
  • March: 31,960 service members
  • April: 32,980 service members
  • May: 33,760 service members
  • June: 39,290 service members
  • July: 42,860 service members (a record figure for 2026)

The General Staff said that, over the first seven months of 2026 as a whole, Russia's personnel losses totalled 238,650.

Background:

  • On 31 July, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave a figure for Ukraine's losses in the war: around 50,000 killed and 400,000 wounded.
  • When the interviewer asked how many Russians have been killed in the war compared to Ukraine, Zelenskyy said that Russia has suffered 1,600,000 losses, including around 700,000 deaths.
