Another blackout recorded at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) lost its external power supply once again on 4 August, forcing the station to operate on diesel generators for about an hour. These generators serve as a backup source to ensure nuclear and radiation safety.

Details: Power supply to the plant was restored at 14:20, the company reported.

A similar situation occurred just a few days earlier, on 1 August, Energoatom noted.

"This marks the 12th blackout at the Zaporizhzhia NPP since the beginning of 2026 and the 24th since the start of Russia's occupation of the plant. In other words, half of all blackouts during the occupation have occurred in 2026 alone," the statement said.

"Each loss of external power poses a direct threat to nuclear and radiation safety. The dependence of Europe's largest nuclear power plant on diesel generators is unacceptable and further demonstrates the critical risks caused by the illegal occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP," the company stressed.

Only the return of the plant to full Ukrainian control and to its lawful operator, Energoatom, can guarantee its safe operation, the statement added.
