Russians destroy warehouses storing products of two tobacco giants

Russian invaders destroyed warehouses storing products belonging to Japan Tobacco International (JTI) and Imperial Brands Ukraine on the night of 4-5 August.

Quote from JTI: "As a result of the Russian attack on Kyiv on the night of 4-5 August, a finished goods warehouse belonging to JTI Ukraine in Kyiv Oblast was destroyed.

No company employees were injured. The safety and wellbeing of our employees remains the company's top priority."

More details: The company did not specify the scale of the losses. JTI does not expect disruptions in supplies of its products to retail outlets.

Imperial Brands Ukraine also reported that goods stored at the warehouses of its distributors and retail partners were affected during the latest attack. It is not known whether this was the same warehouse where JTI products were damaged.

Imperial Brands estimates its losses from the latest strikes at "tens of millions of hryvnias".

"This caused short-term disruptions in supplies of products to certain locations in the capital. The company suffered the greatest damage in 2023 during a direct strike," said Yevhen Kobets, CEO of Imperial Brands Ukraine.

Background:

• The Russian attack also damaged a NOVUS logistics centre and two Silpo distribution centres. Both NOVUS and Silpo are Ukraine's major supermarket and retail chains. Six employees were killed.
• The Russians also completely destroyed an Intertop Ukraine logistics warehouse, a warehouse storing Puma goods and warehouse premises belonging to Bosch Ukraine's logistics partner. Early reports indicate that all Bosch products stored at the warehouse were destroyed.
• Forbes Ukraine has estimated that Russian forces have destroyed over 400,000 sq m of warehouse space belonging to Ukrainian businesses, the equivalent of 56 football pitches.
