Russia offers new missile for Su-57 fighter to foreign customers – Defence Industry Europe

Russia's state arms exporter Rosoboronexport has begun marketing the new R-77M (RVV-SDM) air-to-air missile to foreign customers, offering it as part of the export package for the Su-57 fighter jet.

Details: According to Rosoboronexport, the RVV-SDM missile is designed to engage aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and drones. The company claims it can be used day and night, in all weather conditions and in contested electronic warfare environments. The missile was developed by Russia's Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV).

The Russian side also states that the missile features an active/passive radar seeker, an inertial guidance system and a radio data link for mid-course updates.

Russian officials added that the RVV-SDM has been included in the Su-57 export weapons package alongside the short-range RVV-MD2 and the long-range RVV-BD missiles. The aircraft is also offered with Kh-38MLE, Kh-69, Kh-58UShKE and Kh-35UE missiles as well as guided aerial bombs.

The company says that, following appropriate integration, the RVV-SDM could be deployed not only on the Su-57 but also on other Russian and foreign-made aircraft.

The RVV-SDM is positioned as a medium-range missile for the Su-57 fighter.

The Su-57 is a multirole fighter that Russia markets as a fifth-generation aircraft. According to its manufacturer, it is designed to achieve air superiority, strike ground and naval targets, and reduce its radar signature through stealth technology.

Background: Ukrainska Pravda reported earlier that Russia had offered Su-57 fighter jets to India, but New Delhi is expected to focus instead on purchasing additional Rafale jets from France, upgrading its existing fleet, and developing its own fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft.
