Drones attacked the Taneco oil refinery in Russia's Tatarstan and the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal and a substation in Krasnodar Krai on the night of 19-20 August.

Details: The mayor of Nizhnekamsk, where the oil refinery is located, confirmed the attack but claimed that "air defence forces have successfully repelled yet another large-scale attack on our district".

The Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in Krasnodar Krai and the Taman 500 kV substation were also reportedly attacked overnight.

In addition, Krymsky Veter, citing satellite data, reported a fire near the Primorsko-Akhtarsk military airfield, which the Russian military uses to launch Shahed drones on Ukraine.

According to Militarnyi, Tamanneftegaz is operated by the OTEKO group and is the largest privately owned oil-loading complex in southern Russia. The facility serves as a specialised transshipment hub for receiving, storing and shipping petroleum products.

The terminal has a throughput capacity of around 19.9 million tonnes per year. Before Ukrainian attacks began, its storage facilities for petroleum products and liquefied gas held more than 1 million cubic metres.

This is not the first attack on the facility. On 30 July, at least three storage tanks and pipelines were reportedly hit. Disabling this infrastructure directly disrupts the loading of oil tankers in the Black Sea.

A fire was also reported at the Taman substation, a key node in Russia's so-called energy bridge to temporarily occupied Crimea.

Background: Ukraine's General Staff reported that Ukrainian defence forces had struck the Taneco oil refinery in Russia's Tatarstan on the night of 9-10 August.
