Ukrainian border guards in Kyiv Oblast have destroyed a cruise missile heading towards the capital during Russia's latest large-scale attack on Ukraine on the night of 19-20 August.

Details: At dawn, an SBGS mobile fire group spotted an aerial asset in its sector – a Russian cruise missile.
Shooting down a cruise missile with a machine gun is an extremely difficult task, as the chances of successfully hitting such a target are extremely slim.
Quote: "Nevertheless, the border guards' instant reaction, professional training and skill achieved the impossible – the enemy missile has been destroyed."
More details: The downed missile landed outside populated areas, leaving a large crater at the impact site and scattering debris nearby.
Background: Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine on the night of 19-20 August using various types of missiles and 168 drones. Kyiv Oblast was the main target of the attack. Ukrainian air defences have downed 186 aerial assets.
