Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi has announced that the Ministry of Finance has been tasked with selling Sense Bank.

Details: The prime minister added that the proceeds from the sale of the bank will go towards financing the needs of Ukranian defence forces.

The Ministry of Finance, together with the National Bank, must also resolve all accumulated problems at the bank and ensure transparent and high-quality corporate governance.

Background:

  • On the morning of 19 August, National Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted searches at the office of the Sense Bank supervisory board, including at the premises of suspended supervisory board chairman Mykola Hladyshchenko.
  • NABU and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) uncovered a criminal scheme that organised the laundering of funds to pay bail for former Energy and Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko.
  • The financial institution stated that it is cooperating with law enforcement agencies and providing the necessary information. At the same time, it declined to provide details due to restrictions on disclosing pre-trial investigation data.
  • On the evening of 19 August, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a decision to suspend Hladyshchenko, chairman of the supervisory board of state-owned Sense Bank.
