British people first to receive new honorary distinction from Zelenskyy

On 24 August, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy conferred the honorary distinction "Gratitude of the Ukrainian People" upon the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Details: According to the decree, the distinction was conferred for the solidarity and support shown to the Ukrainian people in their resistance to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, the fight to preserve the nation, and the defence of Ukraine's statehood and shared civilisational values – humanity, freedom and peace.

The Gratitude of the Ukrainian People is a new distinction: Zelenskyy signed the decree establishing it on 20 August.

The decree states that the distinction is intended to express the respect and gratitude of the people of Ukraine to the people of a foreign state for solidarity and support of Ukraine in its resistance to Russian aggression and defence of statehood and shared civilisational values.

This includes support through the provision of military, humanitarian and financial aid and political support, as well as refuge for citizens of Ukraine.

The people of Britain have thus become the first to receive Ukraine's new honorary distinction since its establishment.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is in Kyiv for his first international visit on 24 August and will announce the handover of Storm Shadow/Scalp missile production technology.

King Charles III has congratulated the Ukrainian people on Independence Day, expressing his admiration for Ukrainians' unwavering determination and resilience in resisting Russian aggression.
