Ukraine clarifies that Washington asked it not to attack Moscow and St Petersburg during CIA chief’s visit

Washington has asked Kyiv to refrain from attacking Moscow and St Petersburg for a period of time amid CIA Director John Ratcliffe's reported visit to Russia.

Details: Media reports earlier said that the CIA director had arrived in the Russian capital, citing US officials.

It later emerged that the US had asked Ukraine to refrain from strikes on Russia during the visit by the US delegation.

Suspilne sources confirmed this information and clarified that, in addition to Moscow, the US had asked Ukraine not to attack St Petersburg.

• CBS was the first to report Ratcliffe's trip. Reports of his visit emerged after a US Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft and a convoy of US diplomats were spotted at a Moscow airport.
• The last time a CIA director personally visited Russia was in November 2021. At the time, William Burns travelled to Moscow to warn the Kremlin at the highest level that the US was aware of its preparations for a large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
