Russian strikes cause new power outages in five Ukrainian oblasts

New power outages have been recorded in five oblasts of Ukraine as of the morning of 26 August due to Russian drone attacks and artillery shelling.

Details: Some consumers in Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts have been left without electricity.

Emergency repair work has begun where the security situation permits.

Ukrenergo urged consumers to shift active electricity use to between 11:00 and 15:00, when industrial solar power plants operate most efficiently. The use of high-power electrical appliances is not recommended between 18:00 and 22:00.

Background:

• The government plans to improve the resilience of mobile communication networks during power outages. Under the government's programme of activities, 70% of mobile base stations should be capable of operating autonomously for three days by the end of this year.
• On the night of 25-26 August, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 162 Shahed (some jet-powered) and Gerbera attack drones as well as Parodiya decoy UAVs.
