We cannot stop war now, we will be fighting in winter – Head of President's Office

Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Office of the President, has said that halting the war along the line of contact is currently impossible, while talks with Russia are mainly focused on prisoner exchanges.

Quote from Budanov: "As of now, Russia does not want to stop the war along the line [of contact – ed.], it categorically does not want to. At the moment, the talks are mostly limited to prisoner exchanges."

Details: Budanov said that these are currently the main issues underpinning the dialogue with the Russians. "I think everyone will see the talks very soon, but this is more of a technical side (that) will concern preparations for something major," he said.

Budanov noted that Ukraine cannot stop the war at present and that the fighting will continue through the winter. "We will not stop the war now, not because we do not want to, but simply because it is unrealistic," he said.

Asked whether Ukraine would be fighting in winter, Budanov replied: "Unfortunately, I'm afraid so!"

He also announced another major prisoner exchange. "There will be another major [exchange] very soon," Budanov said.
