Nineteen-year-old soldier Artiom Sinevych killed in Sumy Oblast while returning from first combat mission

Artiom Sinevych, a 19-year-old student and Ukrainian serviceman from Kyiv Oblast, has been killed in Sumy Oblast while returning from his first combat mission.

Details: Just a few months ago, the young man switched to part-time study so that he could join the defence of Ukraine.

"He will remain in our hearts as a bright memory, a kind word and an example of courage and dedication. Open, sincere and kind, always ready to offer support and help – this is how we will remember him.

His life ended far too soon, but his memory will live on forever. We will never forget his courage, kindness, sincerity and the mark he left on the hearts of his family, friends and everyone who knew him," the Educational and Scientific Institute of Economic Security and Customs said in a tribute to the young man.

Artiom was born in Kyiv but spent his entire life in the village of Mykhailivka-Rubezhivka, where he also finished school. During his studies, he took part in academic competitions, won medals in sporting events and participated in the Dzhura military-patriotic game.

"He was sincere, kind, incredibly determined and deeply interested in history," authorities from his hromada said.

In 2024, the young man joined Centuria, a youth organisation affiliated with Ukraine's 3rd Assault Brigade, and enrolled at the State Tax University. Artiom was studying law enforcement.

In June 2026, the student switched to part-time study so that he could take up arms and join the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

At the end of summer, while returning from a combat mission, the young man's group stepped on an anti-personnel mine. He died at the scene from his injuries.

Artiom's university classmates organised a fundraiser to support his family.

Background: In late August, Danyil "Surfer" Smyrnov, who had joined the armed forces at the age of 18, was killed on the front line. His son is due to be born in a few weeks.
