Russia attacks Kyiv: residential buildings damaged, two people killed – photos

Russian forces attacked the city of Kyiv with ballistic missiles on the night of 7-8 September, damaging residential buildings and an educational facility and killing and injuring civilians.

Quote from Kyiv City Military Administration: "As of 06:30, seven people are known to have been injured. Sadly, there is also information about two people killed in the enemy attack."

Details: The State Emergency Service of Ukraine said earlier that Russia had conducted another attack on the capital. Damage and fires were recorded in at least five districts of the city.

An impact on the 22nd floor of a 26-storey non-residential building in the Holosiivskyi district destroyed part of the structure, but caused no subsequent fire.

A garage caught fire at another location, with the flames spreading to a nearby non-residential building and business centre. During the search-and-rescue operation, rescue workers saved one person who had been injured.

In addition, rescue workers evacuated two people from an apartment in a 16-storey residential building after they became trapped inside because of damage caused by the blast wave.

People were also trapped inside a five-storey residential building in the Solomianskyi district. The State Emergency Service rescued 10 people, and one person was taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, a garage on the grounds of a house caught fire in the Darnytskyi district. The fire was extinguished.

A warehouse in the Podilskyi district caught fire, while cars and garage units were also ablaze.

Firefighters are extinguishing a fire in garages in the Dniprovskyi district.

Update: The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that two people had been found dead in Kyiv following the large-scale attack, while the number of people injured had risen to 10.

Firefighters continue to deal with the aftermath of the attack. They are currently extinguishing fires at several non-residential buildings at different addresses in the Holosiivskyi and Podilskyi districts.

A grass fire has been contained in the Dniprovskyi district.

Background: An air-raid warning was issued in Kyiv and several Ukrainian oblasts on the night of 7-8 September and explosions were heard in the capital.
