Zelenskyy announces meeting with Trump in latter half of September

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that he expects to meet US President Donald Trump in the second half of September.

Details: The president said he hopes to discuss US ballistic missile packages for Ukraine at the meeting.

Zelenskyy noted that work is currently under way on the Freya anti-ballistic missile programme and expressed hope that the US will support the programme. However, he said that until the programme is ready, Ukraine needs ballistic missile packages from the US.

Quote: "I expect to meet President Trump in the latter part of the month and raise this issue. God willing, there will be a result."

Details: The president did not specify where the meeting might take place. However, high-level debates at the UN General Assembly begin in New York on 22 September, which the Ukrainian president usually attends.

Background: Earlier, Zelenskyy expressed the view that a trilateral round of talks between the US, Ukraine and Russia could take place, although no decision on this has yet been made.
