Canada provides almost US$29m to support Ukrainian veterans

Canada will provide about UAH 1.29 billion (US$28.9 million) to support Ukrainian veterans and their families, as part of a new international multi-donor veterans' fund.

Details: Canada will provide CAD 40.1 million to support Ukrainian veterans and their families, the ministry clarified.

This is one of the agreements reached between Ukraine and Canada following the meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

An international multi-donor veterans' fund will be established to implement Ukraine's National Veterans Policy Strategy, with Canada making the first contribution.

Quote: "These funds will help veterans with recovery, rehabilitation and transition to civilian life."

More details: The ministry said this is not about simply funding individual areas of work. The new fund will help consolidate international support around the needs of Ukrainian veterans and their families, while attracting additional resources for long-term, systemic efforts.

Background: Earlier, Ukraine's Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said that around UAH 18.5 billion (US$415.5 million) is planned to be allocated in the 2027 state budget to support veterans, who currently number more than 1.5 million.
