Russian leader Vladimir Putin has said that deploying military contingents from European countries to Ukraine would mean war with Russia.

Details: During his remarks, Putin issued direct threats to European countries, accusing their leaders of allegedly pushing their populations towards a direct confrontation with Russia. He portrayed discussions on security guarantees for Ukraine as an attempt to revise the outcome of World War II.

Details: Immediately after issuing the threat, Putin claimed that Russia has "never threatened" Europeans and that suggestions of threats from Moscow were supposedly fabricated.

"There is no such threat, and there never has been. We are not threatening and do not intend to threaten European countries. Why would we? No one is even considering the fact that we have no grounds for any conflict with Europe," Putin said.

In addition, the Russian leader once again reiterated a set of propaganda narratives used to justify Russia's war crimes. He described Ukraine's as a "bloody coup" after which Ukraine was allegedly "drawn into" NATO, claiming this had "become the root cause of the current events".

Putin also mentioned conspiracy theories, accusing "Western globalist elites" of "trying to destroy Russia through terrorism in the Caucasus" in the past and now through a "neo-Nazi regime" in Ukraine.

"Western globalist elites are to blame for the tragedy in Ukraine, but they keep shifting the blame onto Russia," he said.

Background: At the beginning of 2026, Ukraine, the UK and France signed a declaration of intent concerning the deployment of European troops to Ukraine if a peace agreement is signed between Kyiv and Moscow.
