Trump again says he has asked Zelenskyy not to strike Russian oil refineries

US President Donald Trump has said that he has asked his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy not to strike diesel fuel production facilities in Russia.

Quote: "The problem I have with Ukraine and Russia is that a lot of the diesel oil comes… and that's the one where there's a big up… comes from Russia. And the Russian plants are being hit by Ukraine. And I've asked President Zelenskyy not to hit the diesel plants, refineries."

Background:

• This is not Trump's first statement of this kind. He previously said that he had urged Zelenskyy to stop attacks on Russian diesel fuel facilities, claiming that such strikes were causing a global shortage.
• During the public part of a meeting with Zelenskyy in early July, Trump noted that Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries were an escalation capable of bringing the war to an end.
