Details: Numerous law enforcement officers are currently searching for additional debris. The State Criminal Police Office, known as LKA, said the drone fell in an uninhabited open area.

The area is located just 1 km from the Bundeswehr (German armed forces) airbase in Wunstorf. The Bundeswehr confirmed this to Bild.

Since the area where the incident occurred is fairly large, numerous emergency service personnel are working at the scene.

The Wunstorf military airfield in Lower Saxony is also located in the region.

Police are searching the area with a large contingent of officers.

Investigators have known about the discovery since 14 September. The LKA said there are currently no signs of danger to the public. However, the search will continue.

It is yet unknown who owns the drone and where it came from. Investigators intend to recover and analyse other parts of the drone. Further details about the circumstances of the incident will emerge only after that.

Background: On 1 September, Germany directly accused Russia of a hybrid attack at Leipzig airport in early August and announced countermeasures.
