Memorial window display honouring Georgiy Gongadze and journalists killed for their work unveiled in Kyiv – photos

On 16 September, the anniversary of the journalist Georgiy Gongadze's disappearance, a memorial window display was unveiled at the Sens bookshop on Khreshchatyk in Kyiv to commemorate him and all media workers who have been killed for doing their job.

Details: At the centre of the composition is a silhouette of Gongadze, based on the Find Journalist Georgiy Gongadze campaign held in 2000. It is surrounded by smaller silhouettes symbolising media representatives who have been killed.

Visitors to the bookshop who purchase a book on 16 September will receive a free bookmark featuring a quote by Georgiy Gongadze.

Quote from UP and Sens: "With this window display, we want to remind everyone that every silhouette stands for a real person. In 2000 there was an attempt to silence Georgiy. Today, Russia is trying to do the same to Ukrainian journalists – more than a hundred of them have been killed."

Georgiy Gongadze was an independent journalist, TV presenter, and political commentator. In 2000, he founded Ukrainska Pravda. His abduction and murder was one of the most tragic events in the history of Ukrainian journalism and has come to symbolise the fight for freedom of speech in Ukraine.

The display is located on Khreshchatyk, opposite the Kyiv City State Administration.

Visitors to the bookshop can purchase a limited edition of Windmills and Don Quixotes, which Ukrainska Pravda published to mark its 25th anniversary.
