Trump signs Graham sanctions bill targeting Russia
US President Donald Trump has signed a bill on sanctions against Russia, co-authored by the late Senator Lindsey Graham.

Quote: "HH.R. 5334, the 'Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026,' which authorises and expands statutory sanctions, tariffs, and prohibitions on Russia and extends existing sanctions on Iran."
Details: Trump signed the bill on 18 September (in Kyiv time, on the night of 18-19 September).
The law has therefore now entered into force.
The legislation provides for sanctions against Russian officials, banks, oligarchs and the shadow fleet" and allows the US president to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries that buy Russian oil and gas. Sanctions against Iran are extended for another five years.
Background:
- On 17 September, the US House of Representatives passed a bill on sanctions against Russia backed by the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
- On 7 August, the US Senate voted 86 in favour of the Russia sanctions bill, co-authored by Graham and Blumenthal.
- Reports in the media later stated that the bill was facing growing opposition in the House of Representatives and could be blocked at least until the November congressional elections.
- Earlier, the Senate revealed details of an updated version of the bill.
