Kyiv: EU to sanction 27 Russian individuals and entities involved in abduction of Ukrainian children

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said that the EU is preparing to impose sanctions on 27 Russian individuals and entities linked to the deportation and indoctrination of Ukrainian children.

Lithuania has allocated €600,000 to Ukrainian organisations working on returns and rehabilitation. New Zealand has joined the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children as its 51st member."

Details: Sybiha said Ukraine is working with Canada and Norway to organise an international conference in Toronto on bringing Ukrainian children, detained civilians and prisoners of war home. The return of Ukrainian children will be one of the main issues on the agenda.

He reiterated that 103 Ukrainian children had been liberated in August, bringing the total number to 2,525. However, he stressed that the work is far from over.

Quote: "The deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children is a crime, and Russia must not be allowed to turn it into a fait accompli. Our goal is the return of every Ukrainian child and accountability for everyone involved."

Background: At a meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper) on 16 September, the European External Action Service (EEAS) presented a proposal for a new sanctions package against Russia's defence industrial base. The package covers 1,576 individuals and entities.
