Chechen leader Kadyrov fabricated victory in election again with result over 99%

Ramzan Kadyrov, incumbent head of the Chechen Republic (Russia), has been re-elected in the regional leader election following the processing of all ballots, Russian media reports with reference to the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Quote: "According to data on the online scoreboard, after processing 100% of ballots, Kadyrov gains 99.85% of the vote. The other two candidates received 0.05% each."

Details: Kadyrov ran on behalf of the United Russia party.

In addition to Kadyrov, two other candidates participated in the election for Head of Chechnya – Ismail Denilkhanov, Chairman of the Civic Chamber of the Chechen Republic from A Just Russia party, and Khalid Nakayev, a member of Parliament of the Chechen Republic from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.

Kadyrov has headed Chechnya since 2007. He has been "re-elected" three times. Each time, his candidacy was supposedly supported by the majority of citizens: in 2021 – 99.7% with a turnout of 94.61% and in 2016 – 97.94% with a turnout of 94.8%.

Ramzan Kadyrov is the son of Akhmat Kadyrov – a collaborator and the first head of the pro-Russian administration of Chechnya. During the Second Chechen War, Akhmat Kadyrov defected to Russia's side.

Background:

• On 20 September, three days of voting in the elections for Russia's State Duma (lower chamber of the Russian parliament) election ended. The ruling United Russia party is set to win around half of the vote, according to pro-Kremlin exit polls and early figures from Russia's CEC.
• It was reported that mobile networks and internet access could be shut down in Russia during the three days of voting for the State Duma and regional parliament elections on 18-20 September due to what authorities described as "security measures". Meanwhile, systematic pressure on election observers, coercion of public-sector employees and widespread electoral fraud have been reported across the country.
• On 17 September, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) called on the parliaments and governments of foreign states, international organisations and parliamentary assemblies to condemn the holding of sham elections to the Russian State Duma in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and not to recognise their results.
• Ukraine's Foreign Ministry called on the international community not to recognise Russia's elections to the State Duma and regional parliaments, which the aggressor state is holding both on its own territory and in occupied Ukraine.
