Zelenskyy speaks with Trump: they agree to meet
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has spoken with US President Donald Trump and the two have agreed to meet in New York.

Details: Zelenskyy said he had thanked Trump for Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner's visit to Kyiv: "We went through the key details thoroughly, and they saw the situation in Ukraine firsthand."
"There are ideas for de-escalation steps and for addressing fundamental security issues – energy security, food security, and the protection of human life. We are working together with the American team and are ready to take really serious steps," he added.
Zelenskyy also thanked Trump for signing the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026.
Background:
- On 8 September, Zelenskyy said he was hoping to meet Trump in the second half of September.
- On 16 September, Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi confirmed that Ukraine and the US were working on preparations for a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump.
