Ukraine hits Russian oil refineries in Samara and Ufa

Units of the Ukrainian defence forces struck two key oil refining facilities in Russia on the night of 21-22 September.

Details: The Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara was struck.

The Special Operations Forces said the attack was carried out by Special Operations Forces' Deep Strike units jointly with the Unmanned Systems Forces and Ukraine's Defence Intelligence. Several drones reached their targets, causing a large-scale fire at the facility.

The Kuibyshev oil refinery is one of the largest oil refining facilities in Russia's Samara group and is part of the Rosneft structure. It has a refining capacity of around 7 million tonnes of oil per year. The refinery produces petrol, diesel fuel, fuel oil and more than 30 other petroleum products.

The Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim oil refinery in Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, was also struck, with a fire reported on the premises.

Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim has a refining capacity of around 7.5 million tonnes of oil per year. The facility carries out deep oil refining and produces petrol, diesel and boiler fuel, liquefied gases, sulphur and other petroleum products.

Products from both refineries are used to meet the needs of the Russian military.
