Zelenskyy on trilateral talks: US proposes preparatory meeting in UAE

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the US has proposed holding preparatory talks between Ukraine, the US and Russia in the United Arab Emirates.

Quote: "As for the trilateral meeting, the US has proposed preparing for it and holding a trilateral meeting at the technical level. We are waiting for the US to propose a date.

As for the venue, the United States has proposed the UAE."

Background:

• In early September, the Kremlin said it did not rule out the possibility of resuming trilateral peace talks between Russia, Ukraine and the US. Moscow added, however, that "it is too early to talk about the venue and exact timing".
• On 23 September, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian leader, said there were no preconditions for moving negotiations on ending the war onto a "peace track". However, he reiterated that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could come to Moscow for talks.
• On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on 23 September, a representative of a Russian media outlet repeatedly shouted at Zelenskyy, asking when he would come to Moscow. According to Deutsche Welle's Ukrainian service, the Ukrainian president replied, "On a missile," followed by an expletive.
