Ukraine names 23 Russian companies manufacturing missiles for Pantsir air defence system

Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) has released information on 23 Russian companies involved in a manufacturing partnership to produce 95Ya6 surface-to-air guided missiles used in Russian Pantsir surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery systems.

Details: DIU said 95Ya6 missiles serve as the primary medium-range ammunition for various Pantsir modifications.

Quote from DIU: "A key role in the creation of these missiles is played by the Design Bureau of Instrument Making named after Academician A. G. Shipunov JSC – the main developer and manufacturer of 95Ya6 missiles. The company is known for its involvement in producing armaments for Orion unmanned systems, Krasnopol guided artillery shells and cannons for Sukhoi fighters."

Details: Crucially, about one-third of the companies disclosed by DIU are not currently subject to sanctions by any member of the sanctions coalition. These include:

• Komponent Plant JSC – manufacturer of non-contact target sensors for 95Ya6 missiles
• Saratov Electrical Instrument Manufacturing Plant named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze PJSC – producer and supplier of emitter and power supply units for these missiles
• Tambov Plant Elektropribor PJSC – manufacturer of flight-control actuators for the 95Ya6.

Quote: "DIU emphasises that to effectively weaken the aggressor's military potential, it is vital to impose coordinated restrictions on businesses that produce the full range of Russian weapons, rather than focusing solely on offensive systems."

For reference: Pantsir is a family of Russian self-propelled short-range surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery systems designed to protect key military and industrial facilities from aerial threats. Russia also uses these systems to reinforce air defence at low and ultra-low altitudes and to counter massed aerial attacks.

Details: DIU noted that Russian forces have been deploying Pantsir systems on rooftops in Moscow since 2023. This year, they were also spotted deploying another variant, the Pantsir-SMD-E. According to DIU, unlike earlier variants, this model is equipped with small TKB-1055 Gvozd anti-drone missiles instead of autocannons.
